Life Groups

Shore Grace has a number of different life groups that meet to explore faith and life. Each group has a different focus and gathers at someone’s home or at No.12 Greenhithe Road.

“The bible is not an end in itself, but a means to bring men to an intimate and satisfying knowledge of God…” A.W.Tozer

About this life group

As we have personally pursued God (and as God has pursued us), we have discovered that by bringing your ear close to the lips of God, His quiet whisper becomes the loudest voice you hear. Our personal journey with the Lord has also kindled a passion for helping others to move beyond a ‘knowledge of God’ to discover the joy of ‘knowing God’ intimately. As such, we would love you to come and join us each week for conversations that explore the reality of a 24/7 daily communion with God. We will use the scriptures to discern what our expectation of God should be, share personal stories, wrestle with each other’s questions and seek the Lord in prayer together. No matter how old you are, what occupation you are in, or what God’s call is on your life, we hope that our time together will open a way for a deepening of your personal walk with Jesus.

About Ben & Carlene

Ben Mathewson started his working life as a Structural Engineer, while Carlene was outworking a career as a University lecturer in Law. However, in 2007 the Lord relocated them out of their current employments and in to a life of full time ministry. This call to ministry has had many seasons and currently they find themselves investing in both their local church Shore Grace, where Ben works as the Equipping Pastor, while continuing to minister to the wider body of churches in an itinerant capacity. They love and call Greenhithe home and have lived there for six years with their two children.

About this life group

The idea of a Ladies Life Group grew from a comment made by one of the younger Shore Grace women – that in biblical times older women were available to input into the lives of younger women, and she wished that was happening more now. As an “older woman” I have taken up the challenge and I hope that this group will be a place for women of all ages to gather and encourage each other. We will study the words of Jesus, deepen our prayer life as we share insights and revelation, support and encourage each other as we pray for our needs. It goes without saying that there will be coffee to start.  Hope YOU will join us!

About Marie Bishop

Marie Bishop has been worshipping at Shore Grace since the church began and has been privileged to watch the tots of 2003 grow into lovely, Godly young men and women. Marie and her late husband, Brian were welcomed into Shore Grace when they immigrated from Zimbabwe to be nearer to their 2 children and 5 grand-children. Their first home was in fact 12 Greenhithe Road and although Marie now lives in Red Beach, she cannot tear herself away from her Shore Grace family! Two years ago Marie retired from full time employment and now works for the Greenhithe Community Trust as the Neighbourhood Support Facilitator and is also involved with supporting the Hope Shed on Saturdays.

About this life group

When we consider the quest or pursuit of God, we might need to begin with an understanding of who God is and what are his attributes and personality? There can be different thoughts and ideas around that, but this Life Group will offer scope to discuss and explore what we know. The Bible informs us, but so do other writings and reflections since. Furthermore, the pursuit of God would imply an experience of Him when we go on that journey.  So this group will look at the ways in which we experience God in our everyday way of life. Whether you are just curious about these ideas or feel you are down the track in your faith, you will find this Life Group a great place in which to explore what is the most profound quest in life and be energised by the experience.

About Mike Yates

Mike Yates is Lead Pastor at Shore Grace, married to Michelle and the father of four grown children. Mike has worked in and been a tertiary lecturer in Marketing. In recent times Mike was called and retrained to work in Australia and NZ as a Church Pastor with the Wesleyan Methodist Church. Since 2003 he and Michelle have been establishing Shore Grace with fellow sojourners as a vibrant, multi-generational community church in Greenhithe. The vision has been for a people growing in grace, faith and love and impacting the community with faith and passion. Mike can often be seen driving around Greenhithe in his mobile coffee van, a business he runs on the side!

About this life group

How important is the pursuit of God to the pursuit of a career or vocation? Can we get away with putting God on a shelf for a time as we try to establish a future? If you’re someone, like me, for whom it’s hard to get the balance right between faith and this new thing called “adulting,” then you might like this space on a Thursday night. Here, we wrestle with the fact that one of the main reasons why young adults leave the church is that we perceive it to be irrelevant to our (increasingly busy) lives. But how can we recover a sense of the priority of pursuing God above all other pursuits? Does God really care about our dreams and ambitions? And what does that say about God?
